A Workshop on "A Buddhist Approach to the Climate Crisis"

We live in a time of growing ecological threats: human-caused environmental degradation has already brought hotter weather which has in turn caused more severe droughts, more powerful storms that bring more flooding, and rising sea levels. The air in many of our cities is severely polluted, causing myriad health problems. Much of our soil is polluted and degraded, putting our food supply chain at risk. Continued deforestation and destruction of natural habitats of is causing the extinction of hundreds of species in recent years. To address these issues and to avert even worse problems, decisive and large-scale action must be done, and must be done soon.

In a part of our efforts to bring about a better world, Choe Khor Sum Ling will be hosting a workshop on the current environmental crisis. Venerable Tenzin Namjong will guide discussions from multiple perspectives. First, he will present the current scientific findings on the state of the world and where we are headed if we continue along our current path. Then he will discuss the ethical considerations related to environmental issues. And lastly, we will talk about the actions we can take as individuals and bring about change in the larger community and how to overcome the psychological barriers to action.

Please join us in this special event to learn how we can truly make the world a better place!
