    prayer is not beggary, it is uplifting our mind to a serene higher state of mind. Destiny is only an illusion for the lazy ones who want someone or some unknown power to give them what they desire. The idea of purushartha - self effort is taught in Indian scriptures.

    interesting questions. to my mind this answer lies in understanding what is "praying to god" and what is "destiny".

    First lets deal with praying. All references i have seen of praying talk about praying in action, thought, feelings and speech (in hindi: man, karma aur vachan).     By praying, we are actually praying to OUR TRUE SELF, the immortal soul (Atman) within the body, even though all prayers start for materiel gains.

    1-----All prayers start praying to a personal God with name and form ( nama-roopa).

    2-----As the devotee mature spiritually, that personal God will transform to light in the mind of the devotee.

    Good question. I was never one to go for that 'power of thought' or making vision boards. If you planned...in the in-between life...for something to happen in this life, it will happen. Prayer, meditation, vision boards...all great if it happens, right? But what if it doesn't? Then what happens to your attitude about 'said things' or your worthiness? It can only be about the lesson for you that is in your present space, whatever that looks like.
