Prayer is the path, how you do it or when you do it they're all rituals and are different everywhere but all serves the same purpose at the end. To pray you need not to follow any religion or a ritual in particular, to pray is clear up your mind and there should be none but the image of almighty in your thoughts, in any form you can think of him, your mind should be empty of thoughts but at the same time filled with sounds of thoughts which only speaks of wise.

devotee: Should we not ask God for help?

    Shri Datta Swami:

If you are ordinary person you should follow the rules of your deeds and nature. If you are a devotee, even then, you should not ask God for help. Your devotion must not aspire any result. You are asking God for help means that you want God to violate his own natural rules. The impression of millions of angels and sages is disturbed if God violates his own rules. That will give a poor impression on God. You are putting God to...  more

do you know who is God?

Yes, it will but the main thing is, prayer to be done in correct way to correct entity.

The secrets and ways to the thing needed will reveal without doubt.

    But remember, Krishna said,
"You have the right to work only but never to its fruits.
Let not the fruits of action be your motive......etc"

    Hence the law of karma,
Where there is work, there is result good or bad , this depends upon multiple factors.

prayer is not beggary, it is uplifting our mind to a serene higher state of mind. Destiny is only an illusion for the lazy ones who want someone or some unknown power to give them what they desire. The idea of purushartha - self effort is taught in Indian scriptures.

interesting questions. to my mind this answer lies in understanding what is "praying to god" and what is "destiny".

First lets deal with praying. All references i have seen of praying talk about praying in action, thought, feelings and speech (in hindi: man, karma aur vachan). Meaning there by that true prayer is when our actions, thought, feelings and speech all are aligned into the same prayer. When does this happen? one of the most beautiful explanations of this is in the 9th Chapter of...  more

By praying, we are actually praying to OUR TRUE SELF, the immortal soul (Atman) within the body, even though all prayers start for materiel gains.

1-----All prayers start praying to a personal God with name and form ( nama-roopa).

2-----As the devotee mature spiritually, that personal God will transform to light in the mind of the devotee.

3-----During the third stage of devotion, that personal God will transform to nothing or void in devotee’s mind.

    4-----Finally the devotee will...  more

Good question. I was never one to go for that 'power of thought' or making vision boards. If you planned...in the in-between life...for something to happen in this life, it will happen. Prayer, meditation, vision boards...all great if it happens, right? But what if it doesn't? Then what happens to your attitude about 'said things' or your worthiness? It can only be about the lesson for you that is in your present space, whatever that looks like.
