Centre for Philosophy was set up in 1999 in the School of Social Sciences. The Centre aims at studying problems and concerns of philosophy cutting across traditions and narrow disciplinary boundaries. The issue-oriented interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research is the core focus of the Centre. The academic programmes are intended to provide students with a strong foundation in the discipline of philosophy by encouraging engagements with substantive questions and contemporary concerns. Along with the study of foremost themes in ontology, epistemology, and ethics, the curricula of the Centre have been designed to explore newer enterprises in philosophy. The courses of study also focus on training students to read original texts, both classical and contemporary, and to write philosophical essays. Seminars, conferences, workshops, lectures, and discussions on issues of general and interdisciplinary nature are an integral part of the activities of the Centre. Students are provided ample opportunities to meet distinguished philosophers and scholars from India and abroad for discussions and debates on a regular basis. The Centre for Philosophy constantly strives to create a body of scholarly work that can yield newer and richer reflections on philosophical issues and problems.
