Smadarshana : Parity of vision

A spiritually enhanced person would never keep a discriminatory view. Practicing meditation, a person not only clears the befoulments of mind but also gains the knowledge of self and the affinity towards GOD. Garnering the transcendental knowledge equips a person to visualize the divine reality that GOD is situated in every being and at all places.

With this treasure of knowledge, one treats everyone be it friends, benefactors, the envious and the enemies with equal regards. Such an individual would perceive that human beings are all of different faces and forms but the soul resting in the body has only one form and that is consciousness. Once a person perceives this sacrosanct fact then he would treat everyone as equal and there won’t be any existence of either grudge or animosity.

A panoramic view wherein one sees only one soul in different bodies is a situation in which the person just thinks the purpose for which he has been brought to earth. Well-wishers, benefactors, mediators, the jealous, and enemies, the pious and the sinners all would be viewed as just characters. The person would keep a larger perspective putting his earnest endeavours for the welfare of human kind. That’s the state of Samadarshana.

Here, another stance can be taken that of doctors. Doctors view different persons as unwell bodies and do not get involved in any emotional attachment. Doctors are trained to keep the trait of detachment with any person and keep Samadarshana while treating their patients otherwise the emotional quotient will take away efficacy of treatment.

The word ‘Samadarshana’ would not be appropriate to be associated with Kings, Judges, police, a soldier. Since being the custodians of justice, they are amenable to take audacious and righteous decisions without any discrimination. In order to secure justice and create peace and harmony, they award punishments to offenders for the committed offence. If a king maintains Samadarshana then he will not be able to deliver justice. In the same manner, a soldier will not be able to guard his motherland from infiltrators if he applies Samadarshana and display compassion towards those intruders.

Now then the question would arise that should a king not engage in meditation for spiritual advancement? Yes, a King too needs to practice meditation introspecting about the welfare of his citizens. In case of committal of crime, a king, a judge needs to initiate judicious steps for deliverance of justice. Here, Dhyana Yoga empowers the mind to effectuate right decisions to establish righteousness and harmony in the society.
