The fundamental principles of Karma

Life Sciences

An individual attains solace or misery depending upon the quality of his /her deeds. Every person performs a deed(Action) as it is the nature of law that one cannot stay without indulging in any form of deed. Now, let us perceive the identification of Deed(Karma). As mentioned, the base of Karma is the quality of Karma and that determines the fruit of his/her action. The Almighty has given us the freedom to perform an action (deed) but we do not possess the liberty to decide upon the fruits of actions. Just visualize, if we are given the right to choose the fruits of our action, the silk of the society might turn tumultuous because the antisocial elements would thrive upon such an endowment and occurence of catastrophic incidents would be in abundance in our society.

This law does not in any way means that a person should give up doing action for his livelihood thinking that he will not receive any propitious return in lieu of his action. That perception too would be a reason for his /her downfall in all respects. I would like to mention two contrasting actions and the results that are decided by the Almighty.

Lord Krishna through Arjuna evinces that one has to do his/her deeds without thinking about its result whether the act would embrace victory or defeat, bliss or misery. In such a condition of mind, the quality of Karma would be of highest degree. Such an act would also not carry any encumberance of sin or offensiveness as it has been performed with righteous sincerety. One has to condition his /her mind to abstain from attachments towards the result of a Karma in order to render qualitative and unpolluted deeds (Karma).
